Wareham Town Museum tells the story of the geology, archaeology and history of the Wareham area, and has a special collection concerning TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) who lived nearby. This is the subject of a display, and we also have a display on the major archaeological excavations at Bestwall, east of the town.
Do look at our website www.wtm.org.uk for latest information.
Group visits welcome by prior arrangement. Numbers may be restricted because of space constraints. Please contact the museum directly to discuss your requirements.

Before there was a publicly-funded fire service, property owners could take out fire insurance. In Wareham, properties covered by the Sun insurance company had a sun displayed on their front doors, so that, in the event of a fire, fire crews knew that the property was covered and would tackle the fire. This one is probably later than 1762, when the centre of Wareham was devastated by a fire.
